Lana Langs biography

In the 2000s television series Smallville, Lana, played by Kristin Kreuk, is again the (often forbidden) love interest of the young Clark Kent, with at least some of each episode devoted to their potentially romantic relationship. Lana's character featured in a number of episodes in which she is exposed to temporarily power-bestowing and/or personality-changing events, or needs to be rescued from life-threatening danger. In a marked contrast to the redhead Lana Lang who appears in the Superman comic books, Kreuk is a brunette with an olive complexion, being part Chinese, part Dutch. Lana is said to be descended on her mother's side from a French witch, Countess Marguerite Isobel Theroux, whose vengeful spirit returns at one point to possess her. She is Clark's high school crush, and he also carries the guilt for her orphanage, as the arrival of his spaceship heralded the meteor shower that killed her parents and resulted in her living with her aunt, Nell Potter.
In Smallville, Lana and Clark's relationship is depicted (at least initially) as the complete reverse of the post-Crisis version, whereby it was "Clark who long pined over Lana without the other really knowing." This initial scenario also incorporated elements of the 1978 movie continuity by introducing the character of Whitney Fordman, Lana's quarterback boyfriend and Clark's antagonist at the beginning of the series. Although their relationship goes through many permutations in which Lana does develop her own genuine feelings for Clark, the series' ongoing premise very much relies on a hitherto unprecedented notion that Clark had been deeply in love with Lana throughout his entire youth.

Season 5
The relationship between Lana and Clark was a slow-burner, off-and-on until the 100th episode (season five) when Clark reveals his secret to her. The relationship blossoms, but the consequence is her death. Clark's biological father Jor-El rewinds time and Clark relives it again, losing his adoptive father Jonathan Kent instead. Clark and Lana fall out over his inability to confess his secrets to her, and she is drawn romantically to Lex Luthor, whose own secrets are far more sinister.

Season 6
One of major threads developed throughout Season 6 is the relationship between Lana and Lex. The two are engaged with Lana's apparent pregnancy bringing the pair closer. Lana discovers the pregnancy to have been faked by hormones, a ploy (as revealed by creator Al Gough in an interview with TV Guide[citation needed]) by Lex to force her to marry him. On the day of her wedding to Lex, to prove her suspicions about Clark's nature true, Lana tricks and traps Chloe Sullivan in a wine cellar, a situation that requires Clark to save her. From her hiding place, Lana discovers Clark's powers as he saves Chloe, prompting her to decide to leave Lex for Clark. Lionel later threatens her with Clark's life, forcing her to reverse her decision so that she can help him work against Lex's plans. Now married to Lex, she begins to discover his dark secrets, culminating in an eventual decision to divorce him. After he slaps her and threatens to kill her, she fakes her own death in order to frame Lex for murder.

Season 7
In Season 7, Lex is able to evade a murder sentence and, deducing that Lana has faked her own death, tracks her to China. She threatens to kill him with a gun, but reconsiders and eventually returns to Smallville, to the Kent ranch, and to Clark, all to Clark's surprise. There, she meets Clark's Kryptonian cousin Kara. Just before she faked her own death (end of Season 6) she managed to steal $10 million from Lex. The $10 million facilitates Lana's ability to monitor Lex and his activities, using a foundation dedicated to helping those affected by the meteors as a front, a secret she keeps from everyone.
Season 7 devotes much of its plot to the shaky Lana and Clark relationship. In one episode, she takes some of Clark's powers during a lightning-induced kryptonite strike. Clark later reverses the effects by doing the same thing to her, resulting in the release of the liquified, living remains of Brainiac and his ship. Later on after Clark does not listen to Jor-El, he freezes Clark. During this time a Bizarro-infected version of Clark returns to have a relationship with Lana. Unaware, Lana enjoys the new version of Clark.
Following the subsequent destruction of Bizarro at the hands of blue kryptonite, Lana and Clark return to the farm where they continue their stable yet shaky relationship for the next few months, mainly hampered by the fact that Lana lived with "Clark" for two weeks without ever noticing the difference. She continues to maintain the Isis Foundation as a front for spying on Lex, and maintains a working relationship with Lionel. In the seventh season episode "Veritas," Lana falls victim to Brainiac's brain-probe, causing her to do whatever Brainiac wants, even though it caused her terrible pain, aware of everything around her but appearing completely oblivious to others, as if senile. After relaying to a distraught Clark the message, "You're too late, Kal-El," Lana is catatonic at the end of the episode. However, in the season finale, Lana returns to normal when Clark finally destroys Brainiac. By the time Clark gets to the hospital to see her, Lana has already left. A nurse gives Clark a DVD that Lana left for him. The DVD has a video message from Lana informing Clark that she is leaving. She says that although she loves him deeply, she does not want their relationship to prevent Clark from becoming the hero he is destined to be. Lana tells him "I love you, Clark. More than you will ever know" and cries, ending the video. Clark then turns around and is enveloped in a tearful hug with Lois.

Season 8
During the first half of Season 8, Lana's presence is missing. Then, just as the relationship between Lois and Clark seems to be budding, Lana reappears, in the tenth episode, "Bride," just prior to Chloe's wedding. Oliver Queen discovers her in Cuba and persuades her to return for the wedding. Lana's presence in Season 8 is initially clouded by her reasons for not promptly returning to Smallville. Although both seem reluctant, her relationship with Clark appears to rekindle.
In the twelfth episode, "Bulletproof", Lana manages to copy files off of Tess's computer which contain information on "Project Prometheus," a project involving a super-powered suit being designed for Lex Luthor after his paralysis from the incident in the Fortress during the last episode of season 7. Lana tells Tess that Lex is not a person who can be trusted because he himself will never trust anyone. She then reveals a nano-transmitter hardwired to Tess's optic nerve, which Lex had implanted when he saved Tess's life in the past.
In the thirteenth episode, "Power", Lana's whereabouts of the past half season are finally revealed. Initially kidnapped by Lex's men after awaking from her coma, she managed to escape and go into hiding. She began training herself in order to become stronger and more endurable so she herself could undergo the Prometheus Project. While Lana is still lying on the operation table behind a large glass window, Tess arrives claiming that Project Prometheus must be destroyed. After throwing the doctor to the floor, Tess shoots a bullet towards him. Clark enters the room in super-speed just in time, but before he can do anything, Lana breaks out through the glass in super-speed, revealing her newfound abilities. After intercepting the bullet with her hand, amazed at her new abilities, she looks over and smiles at an astonished Clark. She then super-speeds past him and exits the room. Tess returns to her mansion, only to find Lana at the fireplace burning papers regarding "Project Prometheus" from the wall safe she ripped open with her bare hands. Lana tells Tess that she understands the anger Tess feels inside towards Lex, and that she also knows what it feels like to be betrayed by him, but as long as she feels that anger, she will never be truly free from Lex's control. In the end of the episode, as Clark gets to work early to type an article, Lana calls out to Clark from the roof of the Daily Planet telling him to meet her there. Lana tells Clark that she has taken on these powers because together, she wants to help him make the world a better place. After telling Clark how she knows how much he's always cared about her, they share a long, romantic kiss as the sun rises behind them.
Kristin Kreuk made her final appearance (assuming there is no season 9) in episode fourteen, "Requiem" in season 8 of Smallville. In this episode, Oliver Queen announces to the LuthorCorp board that he has purchased controlling shares over the company. While in the board room he is injured while all the board members are murdered by a small bomb. Clark and Lana, who have recently gone back to being lovers, investigate the board room and discover the bomb has a small amount of kyptonite, which Clark immediately reacts to. After Lana analyzes the device and touches the kyptonite, her body absorbs it. Chloe discovers that a former employee of Oliver is behind the bombing and after being confronted by Clark, she provides information on the bomber. As well, Chloe provides Clark with a tracking device which is linked to a Queen Industries satellite and is tracking Lex Luthor's movement, but only for a short period of time. Clark and Lana investigate the bomber and discover that his next target is the Daily Planet. They approach the roof and discover a large kyptonite-powered bomb. They realize Lex is behind this and through a speaker he informs them that in order to stop the bomb, Clark and Lana will have to choose between their love or saving the city. This is due to the fact that in order to stop the bomb Lana would have to absorb the kryptonite, essentially making herself poisonous to Clark. Clark convinces her that she must do it, and they share a kiss. After Lana absorbs the bomb, Clark begins to feel the effects of the absorbed kryptonite and realizes that he has lost his love. Determined, he uses the tracking device to go kill Lex. Lana quickly tracks him down and stops him. At the end of the episode, they are once again in Clark's barn as he desperately tries to convince her to stay. He states he rather have her part of his life than to not have her at all. Teary-eyed, she tells him that is one aspect where he is stronger than her, because seeing him but not being able to touch him would be more than she could take. Clark fights the effects of the kryptonite and approaches her, giving her one long final kiss. Not being able to withstand the pain he falls to the floor. Choking back the tears, Lana walks away from him, turns to him and reminds him that as long as she is in his heart, she will always be with him; she then tells him that she loves him one last time. As she walks away, the saddened Clark looks her direction, and painfully confesses he loves her as well.
